Pocono 's Hiking Weekend

We spent the past weekend hiking, hanging out, eating good homemade food, reading & taking naps. It could not have been a more perfect weekend!

We hiked down along Mud Run & Panther Creek. Mud Run has lush green moss that lays like a bed you want to roll in along the river side. It reminded me of when I was a child & spent a lot time at my Grandmother's house & moss was one of my main staples for my make believe baking dishes. It also carpeted my make believe house under the trees in the forest. (a little clue as to how I turned out the way I did:)!)

One evening I was out on the deck photographing a racoon where we generally feed the deer corn on a large boulder, & this bear came up to feed as well. It was a very interesting evening as first the racoon came, then the bear, then a silver fox. Earlier it was 6 deer, wild turkey & a pileated woodpecker. Definetley my kinda place! We love it there!

West Coast - from Seattle to San Fransisco

I think blogging is a cool idea, but, sometimes hard to keep up with along with life in general!

My trip to the west coast was a success! I accomplished everything I set out to do & more. My friend Sharon came along for the adventure & as usual, was good, fun, company, although she feels safer in the city & I in the middle of nowhere. Needless to say, she stayed safe a majority of the time in the car with her reading material. I, on the other hand, hiked alone in the Redwood Forest & it was amazing! The smell was one of the cleanest, greenest, most intoxicating smells I have ever encountered. If you've ever been there, you know what I mean.

We began our journey in Seattle where the intent was to see Art Wolfe's gallery & to meet the ever legendary artist himself. After a couple of days of missing one another, we were invited to his house by one of his most gracious staff members to meet him. What an incredible space he surrounds himself with. So inspirational & serene. It makes it easy to be who he is, although, he works very diligently at it. He also surrounds himself with wonderful staff who were very welcoming to us.

Art is the man!

In between our trying to catch up with Art, we played tourist & went to Pike's Market. If you're ever in Seattle, a trip to this famous market is a must.

After accomplishing our initial mission, we left Seattle & began our decent down the coast.
The first night, as it grew dark, we left highway 101 to find a hotel for the evening & took the exit for Mount Rainier. The next morning, we went & explored it. Mount Rainier is one of the snowiest places on earth with snowfalls sometimes exceeding 600 inches per a year. A true winter wonderland. We were required to have chains on our tires, but we made it to Paradise without them. It was a dangerous drive though & if I ever do it again, I will definitely look into those chains.

The drive up there was interesting as well. The road goes through a rain forest with mossy oaks that are wonderful trees covered in a green hanging moss that is beautiful. It rained all the way till the higher elevations then it turned to snow with white out conditions at times...very scary. They do keep it well plowed, but, lookout for those enormous trucks.

Back to the coast...it rained every day, although not all day. There were breaks throughout the day that made up for it and sometimes even a rainbow or two.

The coast is spectacular! The rocky beaches are covered with driftwood that come down from the rivers that lead to the oceans. These estuary's are a site to see. We also had seen blowholes, birds, seals, Roosevelt elk & then of course, the Redwoods. I felt so honored to walk amongst these majestic trees. We also did Humboldt.

The drive down highway 101 was well worth it.

We ended our tour at the Golden Gate bridge on our last night about 1 1/2 hours before sunset on a full moon. It couldn't have been any better.

The next day before heading to the airport, we went to pier 39 in San Fransisco. Another wonderful place full of life & the typical San Fransisco flavor. Oh...& those streets are NO JOKE!

Inauguration Day...

It seems I have some catching up to do on here... here it goes...Inauguration Day... I didn't make it to Washington DC, which was the orginal plan. I should have booked a bus months in advance. Even that was not a definite that I would have made it there, apparently.

I ended up going to Atlantic City in the morning looking for some local Inauguration Day events & found absolutly nothing. I asked alot of people, including the Atlantic City police, whom only replied, "You should have went to DC". No kidding, but, does'nt Inauguration Day happen all over the country? To be fair, Martain Luther King Day was the day before & there were events that day, so maybe thats all they could do.

At 10:45am, I decided to go to Philadelphia,PA. I took off from Atlantic City & made it there at noon, parked under Independence Mall, ran up the stairs & made it there just in time for President Obama's speech with about 200 other people!

It was so exciting to be there! I went with my best friend of almost 30 years. After that, we went to the Liberty Bell, The Constitution Center and there we signed the Constitution. It was an AMAZING day & I felt honored to be part of it. It was the best day in history that I have been a part of.

Pocono weekend snow adventure

This past weekend was spent in the Pocono's around the Jim Thorpe area with my husband Bill, grandson Mason & my dog Ashley.

We did quite a bit of hiking & exploring in the snow filled woods & even a lil' bit of sleding.

About 2 inches of solid ice had been there before all the snow that fell over the weekend, which made for an interesting walk!

Here are some images of our adventures...
